They dressed in their winter best, bundled up in coats and shawls, and climbed into the wagon. みんな冬の一番いい服を着て、コートやショールを着込み、馬車に乗り込んだ。

The sun shone bright and the frosty air nipped their noses. 太陽は明るく輝き、霜の降りた空気が鼻を刺した。

Sleet sparkled on the frozen-hard ground. 凍った地面にみぞれがきらめいていた。

Pa was on the wagon seat, with Ma and Carrie snug beside him. パパは馬車の座席に座り、ママとキャリーは彼の横にぴったりとくっついていた。

Laura and Mary wrapped their shawls around each other and snuggled together on their blanket in the bottom of the wagon. ローラとメアリーはショールを互いに巻きつけ、馬車の底に敷いた毛布にくるまって寄り添った。
