And I am back at Windy Poplars for my third and last year in Summerside High.	そして私はサマーサイド高校の3年目、最後の年のためにウィンディ・ポプラズに戻ってきた。
Katherine and I had a delightful time together at Green Gables and I'm going to miss her dreadfully this year.	キャサリンと私はグリーン・ゲイブルズで楽しい時間を過ごしたし、今年は彼女がいなくてとても寂しくなる。
The new Junior teacher is a jolly little personage, chubby and rosy and friendly as a puppy...but somehow, there's nothing more to her than that.	新しい低学年教師は陽気な小柄な人で、ふっくらとしていてバラ色の肌をしていて、子犬のように人懐っこい・・・でも、それ以外には何も特徴がない。

There was so much to discover in Katherine, when you once got past her guard.	キャサリンには、一度彼女のガードを突破してしまえば、発見することがたくさんあった。

The widows have decided not to bother with another one but to get milk and cream from Mr. Cherry.	未亡人たちは、もう牛を飼うのはやめて、チェリーさんから牛乳とクリームを買うことにした。
This means that little Elizabeth will come no more to the garden gate for her new milk.	つまり、小さなエリザベスは、もう庭の門まで新鮮な牛乳を取りに来なくなるということだ。

Mrs. Raymond is a widow who came to our town last winter.	レイモンド夫人は去年の冬にこの町に来た未亡人です。
Rebecca Dew and the Windy Poplars widows...really, Summerside is a great place for widows...think her a 'little too grand' for Summerside, but she was really a wonderful help to Katherine and me in our Dramatic Club activities.	レベッカ・デューとウィンディ・ポプラーズの未亡人たち・・・本当に、サマーサイドは未亡人にはもってこいの場所だ・・・は、彼女がサマーサイドには「ちょっと立派すぎる」と思っているが、彼女はキャサリンと私の演劇部の活動に本当に素晴らしい助けになってくれた。
One good turn deserves another.	情けは人の為ならず。

“Gerald and Geraldine are eight and are a pair of angelic-looking youngsters, but Rebecca Dew 'pulled a mouth,' to use one of her own expressions, when I told her what I was going to do.

She says she's determined they'll have a ”natural“ life. They take people in by that saintly look of theirs, but I've heard what her neighbors have to say of them.	彼女は子供たちに「自然な」生活を送らせる決意だと言っているよ。彼らはあの聖人のような顔で人々を欺くけど、私は彼女の近所の人たちが彼らについて何と言っているか聞いたことがあるよ。
The minister's wife called one afternoon...well, Mrs. Raymond was sweet as sugar pie to her, but when she was leaving a shower of Spanish onions came flying down the stairs and one of them knocked her hat off.	ある午後、牧師の奥さんが訪ねてきたの...そう、レイモンド夫人は彼女にとても優しかったんだけど、彼女が帰るときにスペイン玉ねぎの雨が階段を降りてきて、そのうちの一つが彼女の帽子を落としたのよ。
“Children always behave so abominably when you 'specially want them to be good,” was all Mrs. Raymond said...kinder as if she was rather proud of them being so unmanageable.	「子供たちはいつも、特に行儀よくして欲しい時にひどい振る舞いをするのよ」というのがレイモンド夫人の言うことの全てだった...まるで子供たちが手に負えないことを誇りに思っているかのようだった。
They're from the States, you know'...as if that explained everything.	彼らはアメリカから来たのよ、わかるでしょう...まるでそれが全てを説明するかのように。
Rebecca has about as much use for 'Yankees' as Mrs. Lynde has.”	レベッカはリンデ夫人と同じくらい「ヤンキー」を嫌っているよ。」
